Bio

Between steel and current.

D.j. Mr. Brown is electronic music from the heart of Germany’s Ruhr region — born of a place that never sleeps. Between steel, coal and the endless hum of machines, Michael Braun (born 1978) grew up in a world where rhythm was never just music, but the pulse of everyday life. No surprise, then, that electronic music found him early — and never let go.

Today he translates that industrial heritage into sound: hypnotic, powerful, built without compromise for the dance floor. His range runs from melodic EDM at 137 BPM to driving peak-time techno beyond 142 — at times shimmering and dreamlike, at times raw and direct. Tracks like RAW, Obsolet and The Light show both sides: one builds tension like a blast furnace firing up, the other releases it in blinding breakdowns. It’s music for the moment the room tips over and everyone becomes one thing only: in motion.

What began as a passion has long since become a serious body of work. D.j. Mr. Brown has released more than 15 tracks, present on 14 streaming platforms — from Spotify and Apple Music to Beatport and Bandcamp. In 2025 came the outside confirmation: 1st place at the HOFA Song Contest, one of the most respected music-production competitions in the German-speaking world. An award that doesn’t celebrate marketing, but craft — the mix, the sound design, the production down to the last detail.

Because D.j. Mr. Brown is producer and DJ in one. He builds his tracks himself, from the first kick to the final master, and then carries them exactly where they belong: into the club, onto the rave, among the people. His set is no best-of of other people’s hits, but a story told through his own material and carefully curated selections — a journey that knows when to breathe and when to hit.

His studio is no longer in the Ruhr, but in Beelitz, Brandenburg — far from the roar of the furnaces, but with the space that music needs to breathe. The roots stay industrial; the sound travels on. It’s out of that distance between loud and quiet that the very tension carrying his tracks is born.

Alongside the music he shares his world in the KlangKunst video podcast: conversations about production, culture and the people behind the faders — an open look into a scene that often stays in the dark. It’s the same impulse that drives his music: build connection, break down barriers, free your mind.

D.j. Mr. Brown stands for an attitude they understand in the Ruhr: down-to-earth, honest, uncompromising about the work. No hype, no pose — just the music, the craft, and the belief that a good track can transform any room.

“Free your mind” — not as a slogan, but as an invitation.
